SDG's overview
Life Below Water
Information :
The stated aim is to conserve and sustainably utilize
Marine and Ocean Resources for sustainable development. The sea is the largest ecosystem on earth. From the poster, we got several things, those are :
OCEAN EMERGENCY
1) Coastal Eutrophication - causing algal blooms and dead and dead zones. This occurs due to reduced predator populations, high levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, increased exposure to sunlight, and the presence of excess nutrients.
2) Ocean Acidification - 30% higher than in pre-industrial times. This is caused by increasing CO2 concentrations and sea water temperatures which can also accelerate coral bleaching and inhibit coral growth.
3) Ocean Warming - sea-level rise and impact marine ecosystems. Ocean warming occurs due to global warming and can increase the volume of sea water due to one of the melting ice, this can also cause coral reefs to experience bleaching due to water acidification.
4) Plastic Pollution - seventeen million metric tons in 2021-2-3x more by 2040. This rubbish can be caused by human’s throwing rubbish carelessly. The problem of rubbish in the sea is becoming increasingly unstoppable day by day and can damage the ecosystem
5) Over fishing - more than a third of global fish stocks are overfished. This means the number of fish removed is greater than the rate of breeding or population recovery. Some types of fishing gear, including gill nets and beach seines, can also damage reef ecosystems.
From the consequences that exist, of course there are
ways to overcome them. These ways is used to preserve, maintain, and prevent the phenomena that occur above and we can get this ways from the existing poster, those are :
1) Citizen Science - Beach Clean Ups
Marine plastic pollution is a type of marine pollution caused by plastic, ranging from large original materials such as bottles and bags, to microplastics which are formed from the fragmentation of plastic materials. which mean Marine debris is mostly human waste floating or suspended in the ocean.
2) Ocean Acidification - Reporting Stations have Triple Worldwide
In 2021 there is 178 stations. In 2022 there are 308 stations. And in 2023 is the biggest stations which means 539 stations.
3) Suffocating Seas - Coastal Eutrophication Triggers Crustacean Walkout
Drowning is death resulting from suffocation and hypoxia after submersion in any liquid, usually water.
4) Fish Caught Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing Carried out in contravention of the law, perpetrated without being immediately detected by monitoring and surveillance, or conducted without the constraints of any regulatory system.
So, from the information we can find out what we should
pay attention to when we are at sea to prevent the potential for more than an existing emergency. We can also understand what happens to the sea which results in a marine emergency. Therefore, we need to preserve and protect the sea as the largest ecosystem on earth.
